GLP‐1 is a peptide produced by distal intestinal mucosal endocrine cells, apart from its effect on glucose metabolism, GLP‐1 has anti‐inflammatory and antioxidant effects in cell types associated with atherosclerosis formation, as well as direct cardioprotective effects (Krasner et al., 2014; Shiraki et al., 2012). Here, GLP1R is linked to atherosclerosis.
