The authors demonstrated a connection between obesity and the methylation status of the CpG site at 74 nt in the ADIPOQ gene promoter, where a decline in the proportion of obese and morbidly obese patients who had this CpG site methylated and the similar proportion of patients in the insulin- and non-insulin-resistant groups who had this CpG site methylated was observed. This evidence concerns the gene INS and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
