Recently, a KIF5A (kinesin-1) mutation causing the neurodegenerative disease Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) has been linked to a loss of autoinhibition (Baron et al., 2022; Nakano et al., 2022; Pant et al., 2022). The gene discussed is KIF5A; the disease is amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
