Colocalization of EGFP-MTERFD2 fusion protein suggested that MTERFD2 targeting mitochondria exhibit a dynamic expression pattern during embryogenesis and might play an important role in organ differentiation.48 MTERFD2 has been shown to recruit ribosomal RNA through NSUN4 to regulate ribosomal biogenesis.49 It was found that MTERFD2 also plays a vital role in mitochondrial regulation and neurodegenerative disease. Here, NSUN4 is linked to neurodegenerative disease.
