Adiponectin is the most abundant circulatory adipokine and has a crucial role in suppressing the metabolic disorders which may result in non‐alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), obesity, metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and atherosclerosis (Abou‐Samra et al., 2020; Achari & Jain, 2017; Dıez & Iglesias, 2003; Renaldi et al., 2009; Stern et al., 2016). The gene discussed is ADIPOQ; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
