The most common reason for hypothyroidism is Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT), in which patients have thyroid receptor antibodies (TRAb), antibodies to thyroid peroxidase (TPO), and thyroglobulin antibodies. Many essential genes, including the thyroid-specific genes thyroglobulin (TSGT), TSH-receptor gene, human leukocyte antigen (HLA) genes, cytotoxic T lymphocyte-associated antigen (CTLA) genes, thyroglobulin gene, vitamin D receptor gene, and many immune-regulatory genes were associated with autoimmune thyroid diseases' (AITDs') etiology. This evidence concerns the gene TPO and Hashimoto thyroiditis.
