Apoptosis-inducing anticancer drugs, like etoposide and doxorubicin, have been shown cause lipid droplet accumulation in tumor cells likely through the activation of p53 and the inhibition of mTOR and MYC which leads to lipid accretion as a result of mitochondrial impairment, inhibition of fatty acid oxidation and the subsequent redirection of fatty acids towards lipid storage (55, 56). This evidence concerns the gene MYC and neoplasm.
