Hb-conjugated polymeric micelles produced more singlet oxygen (1O2) after light initiation and triggered photo-toxicity to cervical cancer cells in comparison with polymeric micelles without Hb conjugation.32 Correspondingly, Luo et al. enhanced the efficacy of PDT by developing a lipid–polymer hybrid nanoparticle system to mimic RBC seen in mammals.33 They complexed Hb with indocyanine green dye (ICG), and subsequently the complex was embedded into lipid–polymer nanoparticles with a DSPE–PEG shell and PLGA core. Here, GSTM1 is linked to cervical carcinoma.
