CP and infection: CRISPR-Cas13 was used to confer broad spectrum resistance by Zhan et al. (2019) to protect potato plants from PVY by designing sgRNAs targeting P3 (a membrane protein involved in pathogenicity, movement, systemic infection, and virus replication), CI (which forms the laminate cytoplasmic inclusion bodies, involved in infection and virus movement), NIB (an RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) that participates in the replication of the viral RNA) and CP (which is active in virion assembly, cell-to-cell and systemic movement, and vector transmission) encoding regions of PVY RNA.
