IL6 and inflammatory bowel disease: Conversely, participants undergoing a high-fermentation diet showed a decrease in inflammatory markers such as IL-10 and IL-6, both cytokines shown to be implicated in IBD, suggesting it is possible that fiber type has a complex, hidden impact on specific microbes present in only a subset of patients.94 Thus, this study shows the potential multi-omics approaches have in elucidating previously unknown gut-centric interactions, which can be applied to IBD in future studies.
