Similar to how it occurs in rodents, the mechanism of DEX-induced muscular atrophy in zebrafish is also thought to involve an increase in proteolysis due to the overexpression of atrogin-1 and murf1 ubiquitin ligase (as a part of aging-induced muscular atrophy); however, this notion has yet to be proven. This evidence concerns the gene FBXO32 and muscular atrophy.
