Notably, our findings verified that aberrant expression of two major fatty acid desaturases, SCD1 and FADS2, accompanied by concomitantly enhanced activities of fatty acid desaturation and tumor aggressiveness, was observed in ovarian cancer cells derived from malignant ascites as compared with cancer cells from the primary ovarian tumor [53], indicating altered FAM is crucially associated with the oncogenic capacities of metastatic ovarian cancer cells. The gene discussed is FADS2; the disease is ovarian cancer.
