The ZEB proteins consist of a homeodomain (HD) in the middle of the structure and other protein binding domains, including the SMAD interaction domain (SID), which regulates the transforming growth factor beta (TGFβ)-mediated transcription with bone morphogenetic proteins (BMP) signalling, zinc finger domain (ZFD), coactivator binding domain (CBD), CtBP interaction domain (CID) and the p300-CBP-associated factor (P/CAF) binding domain, which control EMT as a trigger of for tumour progression and metastasis (Figure 1) [24,25,26,27,28].
