Although these discrepancies are currently difficult to explain, a recent study has suggested that increased levels of circulating IL-10 in diabetic pregnant women might be a consequence of hypomethylation of the IL10 gene caused by hyperglycemia [41]; however, whether a similar epigenetic mechanism could underlie an elevated IL10 transcript in leukocytes of hyperglycemic GDM women during pregnancy and at 1-year follow-up remains to be determined. This evidence concerns the gene IL10 and Hyperglycemia.
