Along with the old antihyperglycemic drugs (insulin, metformin, sulfonylureas, glinides and thiazolidinediones), in recent decades the following new antihyperglycemic drugs have been introduced for the treatment of DM: Dipeptidyl-peptidase-4 inhibitors (DPP4-i), glucagon-like peptide- 1 receptor agonists (GLP1-Ras) and sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2-i).
