On the other side, the tear concentration of EGF, fractalkine, IL-1RA, IL-8, IP-10 and IL-6 has been shown to be higher compared with the plasma profile in both active and inactive uveitis, which could be related to a local dysregulation of the immune system in the eye, leading to an increased local production of these cytokines, although further investigations are needed to unveil the origin of each cytokine in the tears. The gene discussed is CXCL8; the disease is uveitis.
