As reported by a Molecular Epidemiology of Colorectal Cancer (MECC) study [33], the APC I1307K variant arose in the Middle East, alleles likely existed between 947 BC and 195 BC, at about the time of the beginning of the Jewish diaspora, therefore explaining its presence in the non-Ashkenazi Jewish populations and even in the Arab population in Israel. The gene discussed is APC; the disease is colorectal cancer.
