Elevation of vascular biomarkers, such as tumour necrotic factor-alpha (TNF-α), fibrinogen, tissue factor (TF) activity, and plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) [5], has been linked to endothelial dysfunction, prothrombotic clot formation and hypofibrinolysis, thus resulting in increased vascular risk for atherosclerosis [5, 6]. Here, SERPINE1 is linked to endothelial dysfunction.
