Previous research has shown that an antibody directed against DSG2 and siRNA-mediated DSG2 depletion caused reductions in cell adhesion and epithelial barrier function in monolayers of Caco-2 cells (a human colorectal adenocarcinoma cell line) and that DSG2 expression was strongly reduced in the mucosa of patients with Crohn’s disease40,41. The gene discussed is DSG2; the disease is colorectal adenocarcinoma.
