In addition, the proportion of positive PD-L1 expression is higher in squamous cell carcinoma than in adenocarcinoma of the cervix, and high expression of PD-L1 is commonly associated with better efficacy of anti-PD-1/PD-L1 treatment35–37; the promising efficacy observed with the combination treatment in this study may be partly due to the fact that the tumors in all enrolled patients had a squamous cell carcinoma component.
