IL18 and Insulin resistance: Interleukin-18 (IL-18) was discovered in 1989 and has since been found to be expressed in skeletal muscle, be increased in plasma following exercise, to increase fatty acid oxidation in isolated mouse soleus muscle, and to reduce insulin resistance in mice (Nakamura et al., 1989; Plomgaard et al., 2005; Lindegaard et al., 2013; Garneau et al., 2020).
