Presently, the majority of published studies ascribe MNX1-AS1 to be a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA), acting against different targets to elicit downstream effects on the migration and invasion of HCC [19], ESCC [31], ovarian [22] and lung cancers [32] by sponging miR-218-5p, miR-34a, miR-744-5p and miR-527, respectively, while in LSCC, MNX1-AS1 was shown to promote β-catenin signaling by targeting miR-744–5p [34].
