In our previous study of the peculiar tuberculosis persister drug pyrazinamide (PZA) (11), the active component of PZA, namely, pyrazinoic acid (POA), was found to bind to Mycobacterium tuberculosis PNPase, a bifunctional enzyme, guanosine pentaphosphate synthetase (GpsI)/polyribonucleotide nucleotidyltransferase (Rv2783) involved in RNA degradation (12), which was subsequently shown to be a new target of PZA (13, 14). Here, PNPT1 is linked to tuberculosis.
