Dabrafenib mesylate, a BRAF inhibitor, was approved by FDA in 2013 for the treatment of metastatic melanoma with a BRAF V600E mutation after results from the BREAK-3 study.23,24 Even after crossover to dabrafenib after progression with dacarbazine, dabrafenib has a slightly superior 5-year overall survival rate of 24% vs 22% after 5 years.25 The gene discussed is BRAF; the disease is metastatic melanoma.
