One possible underlying mechanism is the increased incretin hormone GLP‐1 circulation‐time which induces overgrowth of pancreatic acinar and ductal cells,44, 45 causing occlusion and resulting in pancreatitis46; although it must be noted that β‐cell proliferation was induced with physiologically unlikely concentrations of GLP‐1 and there are conflicting evidence of a significant association of pancreatitis with DPP4i therapy.47, 48, 49, 50. The gene discussed is GCG; the disease is pancreatitis.
