Interestingly, in our patients with obesity, we observed a significant association between monocyte counts and signs of systemic inflammatory activation, as the absolute number of total monocytes and the absolute count of IM correlated positively to circulating sCD163 levels (r=0.420, p<0.001, Table 3; Supplementary Figure 4C), and absolute CM counts had a positive trend to sCD163 levels (r=0.243, p=0.053). The gene discussed is CD163; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
