The subgroup of pwCF who tested positive for a viral infection (n=18) revealed higher inflammatory responses in IL-6 (median, IQR: 37.8 (29.9, 66.0) pg/ml vs. 16.1 (11.1, 23.5) pg/ml; p=0.001), IL-8 (median, IQR: 678.6 (444.7, 815.9) pg/ml vs. 206.7 (138.2, 386.3) pg/ml; p=0.028), NE (median, IQR: 636.5 (263.8, 834.2) pg/ml vs. 305.2 (148.7, 438.4) pg/ml; p=0.01), and MMP-9 (median, IQR: 47,804.5 (10,073.2, 151,285.5) pg/ml; p=0.01) compared to the subgroup of pwCF who tested negative for any of the mentioned viruses (n=31). This evidence concerns the gene IL6 and viral infectious disease.
