The NLRP3 inflammasome activator, S100A9 has been identified as a promising biomarker and therapeutic target for different cancers (19, 65, 66) as well as for MI (67) and myocarditis (18, 68), accentuating the relevance of evaluating the potential of anti-S100A9 compounds in clinical studies of cancer (19) and heart failure (69). Here, S100A9 is linked to myocarditis.
