Campbell et al. compared coagulopathy findings between those with COVID-19 and sepsis in 70 patients and found that plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 (PAI-1) levels were higher and d-dimer levels were lower in the plasma of patients with COVID-19 than in those with sepsis, and concluded that PAI-1 might decrease plasmin degradation and inhibit d-dimer release. This evidence concerns the gene SERPINE1 and COVID-19.
