In multivariate analysis, confusion, blood urea nitrogen, respiration, blood pressure in patients aged > 65 years (CURB-65) (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 5.331, 95% confidence interval [CI] 2.587–10.987; p < 0.001), albumin (aOR 0.139, 95% CI 0.003–0.636; p = 0.01), d-dimer (aOR 1.001, 95% CI 1.000–1.002; p = 0.032), and HO-1 (aOR 1.116, 95% CI 1.055–1.180; p < 0.001) were significantly associated with 48-h sepsis episodes after adjusting for other confounding factors.
