NLRP3 and inflammation: Inflammasome-derived products such as IL18 in the serum were correlated with disease severity.257 A study of Pan et al. revealed that the N protein of SARS-CoV-2 promotes NLRP3 inflammasome activity and induces an excessive immune response.258 Therefore, inhibitors targeting the NLRP3 inflammasome might serve as drugs to treat COVID-19.259 A study conducted by Zeng et al. demonstrated that inhibition of the NLRP3 inflammasome by MCC950 alleviated excessive lung inflammation.
