A study by Wong et al. (2018) showed a reduced hippocampus and cingulate availability of the α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (α7-nAChR) in non-smokers with recent-onset psychosis, especially those with non-affective (NP) psychosis, and its connection with cognitive deficits after correcting for age. This evidence concerns the gene CHRNA7 and psychotic disorder.
