Genetic variation in proteins coded in TM6SF2 (transmembrane 6 superfamily member 2) gene has been shown to increase blood lipid levels and has been associated with prevalence of both NAFLD and NASH (Pirola and Sookoian, 2015; Sookoian and Pirola, 2017). This evidence concerns the gene TM6SF2 and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis.
