HLA-A and infection: Although there may also be several other reasons, such as social and medical differences for the infection rate and mortality, there was an inverse correlation between the COVID-19-related deaths per 100,000 population and the HLA-A*24:02+ population in the indicated countries (Fig. 1a, c), which did not hold true for the HLA-A*02:01+ population (Fig. 1d, f).
