Adiponectin mimicked exercise-induced effects in stress-elicited depression mice by retaining the normal proliferation of neural progenitors and dendritic morphology of neurons in the hippocampal dentate gyrus.400 In addition, AdipoRon (adiponectin receptor agonist), which mimicked the effects of running, rescued impaired cognitive function by improving hippocampal neurogenesis via adiponectin-Notch pathway.401 Similarly, AdipoRon treatment confirmed the exercise-induced hippocampal neuroplasticity in diabetic mice as well, which provides another promising candidate exercise mimetics.402,403. The gene discussed is ADIPOQ; the disease is depressive disorder.
