In the asthma group, basal cells had significant down-regulation of genes (e.g., CXCL10, MMP1 and IL-6) and up-regulation of genes (e.g., MUC5B and IKBKE), which are involved in the IL-17 signaling pathway, accompanied by up-regulation of the apoptosis process (e.g., UBD and AKAP13) and down-regulation of the hippo signaling pathway (e.g., LRG1 and MYC). The gene discussed is MUC5B; the disease is asthma.
