Studies using mouse embryonic fibroblasts (MEFs) derived from the Sall2 knockout model suggest that SALL2/Sall2 behaves as a tumor suppressor by negatively regulating cell cycle progression (Sato et al., 2003; Hermosilla et al., 2018) and by inducing cellular apoptosis during genotoxic stress (Escobar et al., 2015). The gene discussed is SALL2; the disease is neoplasm.
