NADPH prevents the toxicity of MPTP by increasing GSH, reducing ROS and inhibiting neuroinflammation (Zhou et al., 2018). Overexpression of G6PD shows a protective effect against MPTP toxicity (Mejías et al., 2006). TIGAR may be a potential therapeutic target for PD by increasing the production of NADPH and G6PD. The gene discussed is G6PD; the disease is Parkinson disease.
