Given that recent evidence points to an absence of meaningful endothelial ACE2 expression or direct infection of endothelium by SARS‐CoV2,19, 20 we hypothesize that ACE2 downregulation, likely in the lung, results in localized RAAS dysregulation with accumulation of Ang‐II and loss of Ang‐(1‐7) leading to local endothelial cell toxicity. Here, ACE2 is linked to infection.
