Starting from the well-known AT2 cell as the root45, the cells were found to first evolve into Clara-like cancer cells (Epi-C1), then into CRABP2 + cancer cells (Epi-C3) and TM4SF1 + cancer cells (Epi-C0), and finally into UBE2C + cancer cells (Epi-C6) as the most poorly differentiated cancer cell type and the end state (Fig. 2h, top panel).
