As blocking gut-derived 5-HT biosynthesis might be benefit for bone health, Gerard et al. used LP533401, a small molecular inhibitor of TPH-1 that had been tested in clinical trials for irritable bowel syndrome, to treat osteoporosis in ovariectomized rodents, and proved that inhibiting gut-derived 5-HT biosynthesis could be a new anabolic treatment for osteoporosis [31]. The gene discussed is TPH1; the disease is osteoporosis.
