As proposed by the WHO classification, four categories of NENs are identified depending on the grading system: neuroendocrine tumors (NET) G1 (well-differentiated morphology and Ki67 < 3%), NET G2 (well-differentiated morphology and Ki67 3–20%), NET G3 (well-differentiated morphology and Ki67 > 20%), and neuroendocrine carcinomas (NEC) G3 (poorly differentiated morphology and Ki67 20%) [3]. The gene discussed is MKI67; the disease is neuroendocrine carcinoma.
