Heparanase is known to be more expressed in tumors and in NSCLC compared to normal tissues and to be enzymatically active; heparanase, expressed as an enzymatically inactive 65 kDa precursor polypeptide, needs to be cleaved to yield a heterodimer of 8 and 50 kDa subunits [6,10,11]. This evidence concerns the gene HPSE and non-small cell lung carcinoma.
