A recent review by Kartikasari et al. [9] demonstrated the predictive role of some cytokines in cancer detection and outcome; in particular, NFkB through IL-6, TNF, IL-8, IL-17, IFN-γ, and CCL-5 correlate to cancer progression [10]; IL-6 via STAT3, has been shown to promote tumor cell proliferation in many cancers but also chemotherapy resistance (HNSCC, colon, and prostate cancers). The gene discussed is CCL5; the disease is head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.
