Recently, we showed that Lebetin 2 (L2), a 38-amino acid peptide (4 kDa) isolated from Macrovipera lebetina venom [10] and sharing structural homology with BNP [11], exerts strong cardioprotection in experimental myocardial ischemia (MI) by reducing post-ischemic necrosis, fibrosis and inflammation [12,13].
