Some of such genes, such as the bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP2), distal-less homeobox 3 (DLX3) [21], enamelin (ENAM) [22], and matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) [6] have been previously studied in the Czech population, although no associations between the selected variants in all candidate genes and the susceptibility to or severity of dental caries was found in neither primary nor permanent dentitions in children. This evidence concerns the gene BMP2 and dental caries.
