Accordingly, the results of this study point to the protective role of lycopene in a hypercholesterolemia model, which is supported by the decline in plasma levels of the lipid profile, oxidative stress biomarkers, and pro-inflammatory cytokines, as well as the elevation of PGC-1 and PON-1 mRNA expression and the decrease in PPAR- expression. Here, PPARGC1A is linked to familial hypercholesterolemia.
