CD177 and systemic lupus erythematosus: Although the pathogenesis of SLE is not fully understood, it is widely accepted that the complement system in the blood is involved in the pathogenesis of SLE and has important roles in the pathophysiology of SLE, including promotion of inflammatory processes, clearance of immune complexes, cellular and apoptotic debris (Walport, 2001a; Weinstein, Alexander & Zack, 2021; Cook & Botto, 2006).The complement system is composed of more than 30 plasma proteins and cell surface receptors.
