Thus, as in the findings of this study, WC, DCC, and BMI are shown as good indicatorsin the literature in screening for sarcopenia in the older adult population in general.9–11 However, the use of gold standard instruments is recommended to assess musclemass in obese individuals, as the values will be far below the suggested cutoffpoints due to possible sarcopenic obesity characterized by dysregulated secretion ofadipokines, proinflammatory cytokines, and decreased adiponectin, which causeexpansion and dysfunction in the adipose tissue.
