FN1 and preterm premature rupture of the membranes: PPROM, short cervical length at 23–24 weeks of gestation, positivity for fibronectin, and history of PPROM and connective tissue disorders associated with connective tissue damage, such as Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS) that can cause a weakening of fetal membranes, may serve as guides for the early detection of preterm birth.5 Reducing preterm births, whether spontaneous or iatrogenic, is extremely important not only in reducing neonatal mortality or morbidity, but also in minimizing the social impact of prematurity.
