VEGFA and retinal detachment: Given the concern that overtreatment may unnecessarily expose patients to the known risk of intravitreal injections (e.g., retinal tears, retinal detachment, and endophthalmitis), as well as the theoretical risk of sustained VEGF suppression (31), whether (indefinite) maintenance therapy is a safer or more effective approach than protocols that include a treatment pause remains an unanswered question.
